Getting the smallest file without losing quality
Compression is a trade-off between file size and visual fidelity — a few habits get you most of the savings with the least visible loss.
01
Start around 70–80% quality
Most photos lose little visible detail there, but file size drops sharply compared to 100%.
02
Resize before you compress
A 4000px photo displayed at 800px wastes bytes. Set max width/height to match where it'll actually be shown.
03
WebP for the web, PNG for graphics
WebP usually beats JPG at the same quality. Keep PNG only for logos, screenshots, or images needing transparency.
